‘Dictionary.com has defined ‘Art’ as:

‘The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visually form such as a painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power’

I’d also like to think that everybody in the world has their own subjective definition of this particular word. The possibilities remain limitless and infinite:

The Mona-Lisa Painting.

The graffiti behind the local fish and chippy shop.

A photographer taking a picture of another photographer taking a photo.

A night at the opera house.

The Venus De Milo sculpture.

An apple holding a walking stick and briefcase.

A dancer rehearsing her routine for a Saturday night performance.

The Notre-Dame Cathedral.

A 20 second pop song.

A model wearing a dress made entirely out of shoes.

Somebody vomiting a rainbow…

I could probably come up with a 100 more examples if I could, but I guess the point I’m trying to make with this particular entry is that art could really be anything - anything one might perceive and consider to be ‘arty’ or ‘artful’.

CHANGELINGS will (first and foremost) always be a music project. However, I’ve also come to simultaneously regard this as an art project too, as it rather does feel like some level of creativity and musicality is being employed during the writing process.

Will the project’s music be meeting Dictionary.com’s standards of 'beauty’ and ‘emotional power’? I myself don’t even know the answer to that.

Though to conclude, I’d like to think that any artist or creator is free to transcend/break away from certain expectations, rules and boundaries. I’d also like to think that ‘beauty’ lies not just within a completed work, but also in the freedom artists and creators possess to create whatever they feel like creating’.
